KSD Highlights

Dear KSD Community,

I start this letter by expressing gratitude and appreciation for the flowers, tasty treats, kind words, and positive accolades shared with our staff during National Educator Appreciation Week. We are fortunate to work with your children in partnership with you to do the very best we can for each and every student.

In the weeks ahead, we look forward to honoring our volunteers at both sites for their dedicated support of our schools and celebrating our 2022-2023 KSD Retirees, Golden Bell Recipients, and staff that may be transitioning at the end of this school year. Please join us on Tuesday, May 30 at 4 p.m. at the Kent Middle School Lunch Quad for a Special Recognition of our KSD Community.

Sincerely,

Superintendent Signature

Transportation Authority Marin

Maintaining our Crossing Guards | Join Safe Routes to School Task Force

On April 27th the Transportation Authority of Marin (TAM) Board considered the reduction of three (3) crossing guards in the Kentfield School District (KSD) jurisdiction. Thanks to the participation of our community, the TAM Board commissioners committed to retain the guard at Sir Francis Drake and Laurel Grove while they administer a re-evaluation. The two other KSD crossing guards are scheduled to be removed. We need to continue to make ourselves heard to ensure we do not lose these two crossing guards at: Sir Francis Drake Blvd. & Bon Air Road | Bon Air Road & South Eliseo Drive

How to Get Involved:
Participate in the Safe Routes to School Task Force
Safe Routes to School Coordinator, Heather McPhail-Sridharan and KSD Administration is in ongoing communications with the TAM staff, City Councils, and neighboring partners to address this issue, but we need more voices.

Become a KSD Safe Routes to School Neighborhood Captain for 2023-2024

The goal of the Safe Routes to School program is to offer students safer and greener alternatives to get to and from school. Becoming a Neighborhood Captain requires a MINIMUM time commitment (mostly texts/emails to your neighbors) but provides MAXIMUM fun and satisfaction in working with a team of fellow parents committed to creating a safer and more connected school community!

We are actively recruiting a team of volunteer parents from the following district neighborhoods:

Greenbrae | Murray Park | Kent Woodlands | KSD Firehouse | Laurel Grove | McAllister

Please contact Heather McPhail-Sridharan (mcphail.sridharan@gmail.com) to join the growing team!

COVID Update

The latest COVID-19 subvariant, XXB.1.16, is increasing in the U.S. according to estimates from the CDC. It has been most documented in India but has been found in 29 countries, according to the WHO. This new subvariant is producing a new symptom: conjunctivitis (pink eye), especially in children.

MCPH is recommending COVID-19 testing for students who present with pink eye. Guidance will be updated to reflect this change.

California Department of Public Health encourages all students and staff to test for COVID-19 IF they feel sick, AFTER exposure, travel, or large gatherings, and BEFORE events or visiting high-risk people.

Please know that our school offices have COVID tests available if needed. Thank you for your support.

Please reference this exposure notice for symptoms, communicability, and prevention information. (English I Spanish).

Please keep your child home if they are sick. Please contact our school nurse Laurel Yrun (lyrun@kentfieldschools.org), with any questions about navigating illness and school this year.
