Dear Kentfield School District Community,
At a special meeting today, the Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Mary Ann Spitzer who was recommended by a committee comprised of district staff, teachers, and parents. Mary Ann has been a teacher and administrator in Sonoma Valley Unified School District since 2003, serving most recently as the Principal of Harrison Middle School. Mary Ann impressed the committee with her deep experience in special education and programs for English Learners, as well as her commitment to a restorative justice approach to discipline. She won our hearts with her warmth and enthusiasm for students and education.
Mary Ann will be spending the next few months working closely with Sally Peck to make the transition as smooth as possible. We hope to be able to properly introduce Mary Ann to the community in person at our earliest possible opportunity.
Welcome to Kentfield, Mary Ann!
Another highlight of this week came on Wednesday when teachers Amber Hatfield and Maia Yamasaki and parent volunteers Christy Chandler and Laura Harrison organized our first "drive through, curbside drop-off" book drive. Our community generously donated books and learning at home supplies – activity workbooks, art supplies, and fun games, so that all Kentfield students have access to supplies and activities to support distance learning. Thank you to Amber, Maia, Christy, and Laura for finding a unique way for our community to come together to support each other while we are apart.
Letter to the Community: April 20, 2020: Maintaining social connection while distance learning.
