KSD Highlights

Dear KSD Community,

During the months of May and June there are many celebrations and recognition activities we host and attend to highlight our students, honor our staff, and thank our volunteers. In the weeks ahead we have Volunteer Appreciation events at both school sites and we are honoring our KSD Retirees, Golden Bell recipients, Volunteers, and our transiting staff at 4 p.m. on May 30 under the trees in the Kent Lunch Plaza.

We welcome parents, students, care-givers, community members, and staff to join an afternoon of extending gratitude and appreciation for our dedicated KSD educational partners.

Sincerely,

2023 Marin County Golden Bell Kentfield School District Honorees

Annually the Marin County School Districts celebrate educators and community partners through a long-standing recognition ceremony called the Golden Bell. This year the KSD will be honoring the following Golden Bell recipients on May 25 at Dominican University.

Erin Early, Bacich Special Educator | Aidan Durgerian, Bacich Special Education Paraprofessional | Ron Pembleton, Kent Middle School Science Teacher | Jim Bowlby, KSD Data Coordinator | Marin Enrichment, Community Partner

Special thanks to these staff and community partners for their steadfast dedication and support of our KSD school community!

Gratitude for a Wonderful Community Gathering!

On Saturday, May 20 the KSD was well represented at KGHS Bon Air Spring Fair. From our 4th grader choir signing to distributing key information about the KSD, our team showed up and proudly represented our school community. Special thanks to our custodial team – Ramiro Alvitez, Francisco Perez, and Medhanie Gebremichael; and our elementary music teacher Becky Poon. There were 1,000+ attendees, 50 food vendors, 35 community organizations, and an atmosphere filled with joy and positive energy.

To learn more about the critical work KGHS does to share and preserve history, and how you can support their efforts in our community, visit their newly launched website.

District Announcements

California Universal Meals Program

The Kentfield School District (KSD) is excited to announce California Universal Meals Program partnership with the Reed Union School District and Ross School District for the 2023-2024 school year. The Reed Union School District will be the KSD’s school food authorizer supporting the implementation and compliance of the Universal School Meals program. This shared service partnership will support operation efficiencies and program expenditures through sharing vendors and reporting requirements. Our site teams are working through operational shifts, staffing and volunteer needs to ensure our universal food program runs smoothly while providing our students with the necessary nutritional services to support their access to daily learning.

Additional details about our food vendor, volunteer opportunities and program services will be provided prior to the end of the school year and in the summer months as we prepare for the new school year.

Bike Hero is a GREAT “ROLL” MODEL! / Premiación del Héroe del Ciclismo

Each May, parents, administrators, teachers, and friends are invited to nominate a student Bike Hero. A Bike Hero is any student who gets up early to ride regularly, inspires others to bike, eagerly rides as a passenger on a cargo bike, obeys all rules of the road, and has FUN biking.

Four Marin County students (2 elementary, 2 middle school) will be selected to win $50.00 gift cards to a store of their choice.

COVID Update

The latest COVID-19 subvariant, XXB.1.16, is increasing in the U.S. according to estimates from the CDC. It has been most documented in India but has been found in 29 countries, according to the WHO. This new subvariant is producing a new symptom: conjunctivitis (pink eye), especially in children.

MCPH is recommending COVID-19 testing for students who present with pink eye. Guidance will be updated to reflect this change.

California Department of Public Health encourages all students and staff to test for COVID-19 IF they feel sick, AFTER exposure, travel, or large gatherings, and BEFORE events or visiting high-risk people.

Please know that our school offices have COVID tests available if needed. Thank you for your support.

Please reference this exposure notice for symptoms, communicability, and prevention information. (English I Spanish).

Please keep your child home if they are sick. Please contact our school nurse Laurel Yrun (lyrun@kentfieldschools.org), with any questions about navigating illness and school this year.
