It was my pleasure to attend two special events this week. The first was the district’s reclassification ceremony for English Learners. Students who have attained proficiency in English at Bacich and Kent were honored and celebrated by their families, district administration and staff, School Board members and two 10,000 Degrees delegates. The KSPTA provided decorations and the potluck dinner service and clean-up. Over 100 attendees showered praise and pride on these newly bilingual students.
Then this evening, the annual Marin County Golden Bell Awards Ceremony was held at Dominican University. Teachers Julie Gallagher and Michael Bessonette were honored, as was Director of Technology Andrew Koff. In addition, Kentfield Schools celebrated Gender Spectrum and Mary Beth Karlin as community partners. Gender Spectrum has consulted with us this year at Kent, and Mary Beth - a recently retired Kent teacher - has voluntarily coordinated the weekend snack pack program in the district this year. We were so pleased to be able to shine a bright light on all of these Golden Bell honorees and publicly appreciate the work they do on behalf of Kentfield students all year long.
