At the Kentfield School District, we believe every student deserves to feel known, supported, and empowered to thrive. Our Student Support Services team partners with families, educators, and community agencies to ensure that every child has access to the academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and wellness supports they need to succeed in school and beyond.
We are committed to fostering inclusive learning environments where students’ individual strengths and needs are recognized and valued. Through a comprehensive continuum of services, we work collaboratively to remove barriers to learning, promote student well-being, and provide equitable access to educational opportunities for all students.
Whether through Special Education, school counseling, Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP), services for students experiencing homelessness or in foster care, Section 504 accommodations, health and wellness supports, or other specialized programs, our goal is to ensure that every student is connected, engaged, and able to reach their full potential.
We invite you to explore the resources below to learn more about the programs and services available to support Kentfield students and families.
Special Education
Learning Center Programs are offered at both Bacich and Kent Schools. For students who are eligible, these programs provide specialized academic instruction delivered by education specialists and paraprofessionals throughout the school day. Speech and language services are provided at both schools as outlined in students’ Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Other specialized programs and services are also available based on students’ Individual Educational Plans (IEPs).
Learning Center Program
This program is designed to provide supplemental instruction and to target learning strategies in a small group setting. Students who have IEPs come to the Learning Center to develop skills and work on individual goals that will increase academic performance. Each school site has Learning Center teachers and additional paraprofessionals to support students in their individualized goals.
Designated Instructional Services
Designated Instructional Services (DIS) are supplemental services provided to students who have IEPs, which are related to their identified areas of need or disability. DIS services are available at both school sites. Examples are speech and language, occupational therapy, counseling and hearing services.
School Psychologists
Our school psychologists conduct comprehensive assessments of students receiving special education services. Students are initially assessed and then reassessed every three years. School psychologists also provide consultation and support to staff and parents.
Family Partner Group
Family Partners is a group for parents of students with learning differences. This group meets five times per year with the primary goals of providing family perspective and feedback to the school district, supporting children with exceptional needs by increasing knowledge and acceptance of learning differences in the community and supporting parents of students with exceptional needs. Family Partner Meetings are held every other month in person at the Kentfield School District.
Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP)
Kentfield School District provides an Expanded Learning Opportunity Program (ELOP) designed to serve eligible students, and we provide this service free to families who qualify (see below). The Expanded Learning Opportunity Program extends the school day to ensure qualifying students are provided with additional services that focus on developing the academic, social-emotional services, and physical fitness needs of the students in order to prepare them for success in school and in the future. Our programs are offered in partnership with Marin Enrichment and Galileo Learning.
Under the California Department of Education Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) requirements, students who meet at least one of the following criteria will be eligible:
- Multilingual (English Language Learner)
- Free or reduced-price meal eligibility
- Homeless/foster youth
- Siblings of students with the above criteria at the same school
To enroll:
Marin Enrichment (Grades UTK – 8 After School Care and Summer Camp) – Program Hours

Counseling & Social Emotional Learning
At the Kentfield School District, we recognize that students learn best when they feel safe, connected, supported, and valued. Our comprehensive school counseling program promotes the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral well-being of every student by providing developmentally appropriate supports from elementary through middle school. Our counselors partner with students, families, teachers, and administrators to foster positive relationships, build resilience, and create inclusive school communities where every child can thrive.
At Bacich Elementary School, our counseling program emphasizes building strong social-emotional skills and positive character from an early age. Through classroom lessons, small groups, individual support, and collaboration with staff and families, students develop self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, problem-solving skills, and healthy relationships. Social-emotional learning is embedded throughout the school day using research-based approaches such as Responsive Classroom, Character Counts!, Kimochis, Superflex, and Social Thinking.
At Kent Middle School, counseling services continue to support students as they navigate the academic, social, and emotional challenges of adolescence. Counselors provide individual and small-group support, help students develop organizational and study skills, and connect students with resources related to stress management, healthy habits, mindfulness, emotional wellness, and academic success. Students are encouraged to seek support whenever they need it, and counselors work closely with families and staff to ensure students remain connected and successful.
Across both schools, our counseling program is designed to:
- Promote students’ social-emotional growth and overall well-being.
- Support academic success by removing barriers to learning.
- Teach lifelong skills such as self-management, communication, resilience, and responsible decision-making.
- Provide short-term individual and small-group counseling, classroom lessons, consultation, and referrals when additional support is needed.
- Partner with families, educators, and community agencies to ensure every student has access to the resources they need to thrive.
Our counselors are committed to helping every student feel connected, confident, and prepared to reach their full potential—both in school and beyond.
