Kent Principal Grant Althouse

Greetings Kent Community,

Last Friday, the enrichment teaching team presented an informative, engaging, and inspirational discussion about the varied enrichment courses and experiences we offer at Kent. If you are interested in viewing the recorded session, linked here is the recording of the Friday, March 4 Principal Coffee presentation (Passcode: 6h#wnIf.). If you’d prefer to review the contents of the presentation at your own pace, linked here is the slideshow. Current 4th and 5th grade families may find this information helpful to anticipate what the enrichment wheel rotation holds for your child next year, while 6th and 7th grade families may find this information helpful in anticipation of enrichment course selection for 2022-2023. During advisory this week current 6th and 7th grade students will select their enrichment courses for next year, and a conversation at home about our offerings may further inspire your student’s selection. We are thankful to our incredible team of experienced enrichment teachers for the unique experiences they offer our students at Kent, and to our school foundation, Kentfield Invests in Kids (KIK), for the generous financial contributions that make our enrichment program possible.

The second trimester of the year comes to a close this Friday, March 11, with second trimester grades released in Aeries the week of March 21. Also, please save the date for the return of Kent Middle School Open House, Thursday, March 24 from 6 to 7:30 p.m in our classrooms. Look out for more details about Open House through a message this Friday, as well as in next week’s newsletter.

In closing, please take a listen to Kent student Amelia’s KQED Perspective composition that aired last week. She composed this as a part of one of her Kent enrichment classes, a seed of an idea that started in a classroom, and has now been shared with the world! Congratulations, Amelia!

Take good care,

Grant Althouse

WALK FOR WAFFLES! - Walk - Bike - or Skate the week of March 14-18

The Kent Eco-Action Club, the P.E. staff, and Safe Routes to Schools, will be holding a Walk and Bike to school week-long Challenge.

Please encourage your student to join the CHALLENGE and WALK, BIKE, or SKATE to school – during the week of March 14th. Each P.E. teacher will select a class with the most walking/biking trips – their class will be treated to a Waffle Party!

Walking and biking to school is good exercise, it reduces pollution and traffic, and it is fun!

If you live too far, PARK (at least 10 minutes away) and let your student WALK.

Kent Tutors Marin: Free virtual tutoring to K–6th graders in all subjects during school, after school, and on weekends. Spanish-speaking tutors are available. Sessions are 30-45 minutes via Zoom.
