KSD Highlights

Dear KSD Community,

As we enter the final two weeks of the 2022-2023 school year, we have much to celebrate and look forward to. From promotions to graduations, there is a special excitement among our students, staff, and parent community that we cannot ignore. The curiosity among our students to wonder about that next grade level – that next school setting is palpable. I urge you to embrace the wonder of our youth and relish in the joy of all that our community has accomplished this school year.

Wishing our community a fantastic end of the school year!

Sincerely,

Congratulations Bike Hero!

Congratulations to 8th grader, Aurora DeVilbiss! She was one of four students in the county to receive this year’s BIKE HERO AWARD for being an exceptional “ROLL” model, inspiring others to ride while obeying all the rules of the road. Safe Routes will be giving her a Bike Hero Award certificate and a $50.00 gift card to a local store.

Here’s what Aurora’s neighbor said about her:

I am Aurora’s neighbor and I frequently see her biking to school much earlier than many students, showing me that she has an early program to get to. As an 8th grader, Aurora is one of the older riders and sets a very good example for the many younger riders taking the same route. She is always in a helmet and focused on her surroundings, which is essential for navigating 2 very busy intersections along her route, including Wolfe Grade. She also slows and stops when conditions require it, like on narrow and congested side streets. I wonder if Aurora will continue to bike to school when she is in high school?

Attention 3rd-8th Grade Parents/Guardians

On May 30, the California Department of Education (CDE) announced an updated timeline for the release of Student Score Reports (SSRs) for the 2023 CAASPP assessment administration. On June 1, the CDE began releasing SSRs to public school districts for whom the reports were available. As of today, June 5, KSD has confirmed that CAASPP results for most 5th-8th grade students have been populated in the Aeries Parent Portal. Although 3rd-4th grade results have not yet been populated yet we anticipate those SSRs to be forthcoming.

COVID Update

The latest COVID-19 subvariant, XXB.1.16, is increasing in the U.S. according to estimates from the CDC. It has been most documented in India but has been found in 29 countries, according to the WHO. This new subvariant is producing a new symptom: conjunctivitis (pink eye), especially in children.

MCPH is recommending COVID-19 testing for students who present with pink eye. Guidance will be updated to reflect this change.

California Department of Public Health encourages all students and staff to test for COVID-19 IF they feel sick, AFTER exposure, travel, or large gatherings, and BEFORE events or visiting high-risk people.

Please know that our school offices have COVID tests available if needed. Thank you for your support.

Please reference this exposure notice for symptoms, communicability, and prevention information. (English I Spanish).

Please keep your child home if they are sick. Please contact our school nurse Laurel Yrun (lyrun@kentfieldschools.org), with any questions about navigating illness and school this year.
