Kentfield School District News

Dear Kentfield School District Community,

As we come closer to the first day of the 2020-21 school year there is much curiosity and wonder about how this new year will look and feel. At a time, when we would typically be preparing our schools to welcome our students on campus we find ourselves designing a distance learning program that will cultivate community and inspire student learning. Through reflecting on our experience this past spring and feedback from our stakeholders, we are refining our instructional program to maintain a challenging, engaging, and high quality education our students deserve and want.

Last week, close to 500 stakeholders participated in our grade level information sessions, which outlined the instructional day at Bacich and Kent as well as a sample of what a daily schedule may look like for students. The design we developed positions us well to implement distance learning, in-person instruction, or a combination thereof, depending on what is allowable per our state and local officials. On August 3, the state outlined the waiver process for elementary schools to resume in-person instruction, which we continue to monitor while we prepare our distance learning program. When it is permissible to begin bringing students back to campus we will work diligently with our staff and school community to gradually transition into a hybrid program of distance and in-person learning seamlessly.

We are planning to provide additional details around the instructional program, student work expectations, and the opening of school operations by August 21. In preparation for our Distance Learning program, we are requesting additional feedback through our KSD Fall 2020 Reopening Survey. Returning families may access the survey here and new KSD families may access the survey here. We ask that you complete the survey by August 17, 2020, so our planning can continue to be informed by community feedback.

As we all continue to navigate this new normal, I have full confidence that our community can overcome the various obstacles we may face and look at the opportunities in front of us as a chance to reimage school for our children. My hope is that this global pandemic has opened the door for a new level of innovation and creativity that lends to a dynamic way of educating our youth.

Warm Regards,

Superintendent Signature
